Industrial Pressurized Ventilation System To Control Air Pollution

In industries or factories, indoor air without exhaust ventilation leads to worker's discomfort, damages to costly and sophisticated equipment, etc. Thus, these kinds of issues generate the need to install industrial pressurized ventilation system at the workspace. Industrial ventilation system in factories ensures a comfortable, safe, controlled, and dust-free working atmosphere.

The supply of fresh and natural air from the outside to inside depends upon the difference between outside and inside temperature. Outside air will not automatically flow into the building unless a breeze is blowing in the same direction. Nor will the warm air flow out from the building, unless the outside air is cooler than the inside air. Consequently, natural ventilation is less effective in hot windless weather. Furthermore, there can be no control over the ingress of dust inside the building with incoming air. Thus, forced ventilation systems are necessary to install into industries. Air pressure and ventilation system are employed these as follows.

  • Air Extraction/Exhaust of Air System
  • Air Supply System
  • Combination of Air Extraction and Air Supply System

Let’s explore all components of pressurized ventilation system, one by one -

Air Extraction/Exhaust of Air

Properly designed exhaust systems work to remove dust and contaminants from the inside air, but these industrial ventilation system will not work to draw fresh air into the department. Thus, it will cause generating negative pressure on the building and further lead to many undesirable results. So, in order to achieve desired ventilation, mechanical air supply systems are preferred.

Air Supply Systems

Air Supply systems work to throw used air from inside to outside using a pressurized effect, and blow up fresh air into the occupied space with the help of inbuilt fans. These components of pressurized ventilation system provide the best solution to introduce fresh air inside the building in a positive manner. With this positive air pressure ventilation system, interior air can be achieved more conveniently by maintaining reasonable control over it.

Combination of Exhaust and Supply Systems

At the workspace, full control of ventilation can be achieved by using both air supply and air exhaust systems. Uniform distribution of fresh air supply can be ensured and used air could be let out, as per the requirement. Under such industrial ventilation system, the input fans can be selected to give about 20% more air volume than the exhaust fans. Thereby, keeping the building atmosphere at higher pressure than outside leads to reducing ill effects of infiltration due to dust and other air-borne contaminants.

 Conclusion

  • Certain norms that could be followed to make an Industrial Evaporative Cooling Cum Pressurization Plant successful, are given below -
  • air pressure and ventilation system can minimize external heat loads by shading, reflective painting, insulating, etc.
  • Minimize internal heat loads by shielding, reflective painting, insulating, and providing exhaust fans over each hot process.
  • Use all fresh air with no recirculation in pressurized ventilation system.
  • Use grille velocities of 6-8 m/sec. to induce maximum air movements.
  • Calculate necessary evaporative cool air volume from known heat loads. Also, avoid the basis of air changes per hour for industrial applications.
  • In positive air pressure ventilation system, the cracking area should be kept minimum to create pressurization effect. It can be done by sealing all the unnecessary openings to economize the plant capacity.
  • Avoid vigorous evaporative cooling for rooms such as offices and laboratories, where high indoor air velocities are not permissible.
  • Open large enclosures can use spot-cooling for people working at work stations.

Industries Air Purification Solution - Centralized Air Conditioning System

The term “central” in the Centralized Air Conditioning System comes from the fact that this machine has efficiency of providing cool and fresh air into the entire building from a central location in the building. This central AC system dehumidifies the inside air, then blows air into its duct system and throughout it into each room of building to make the environment cool.

What is the Industrial Air Conditioning System?

The term “air conditioning” in central air conditioning machine makes sense of maintaining temperature, relative humidity, and cleanliness level in the area. To achieve these things with a centralized air conditioning system, firstly it is essential to have a deep understanding of internal/external workspace load. Thus, heat load calculations can be done and the plant capacity decided upon. A list of information to determine the heat load requirement is being listed under:-

  • Details of areas that need to be air-conditioned with regards to its plan, elevation, orientation, beam depth, glass areas, and location.
  • Occupancy.
  • Desired inside conditions of dry bulb temperature and relative humidity to be maintained.
  • Outside ambient conditions.
  • Lighting load.
  • Equipment heat dissipation inside the areas.
  • Whether the area adjacent to the department/area to be air-conditioned is already air-conditioned or non-air-conditioned.
  • Hours of operation of the plant.
  • No. of fresh air changes if specified.

How Does the Centralized Air Conditioning System Work?

The working of the central AC system comes under a refrigeration (vapor compression) cycle. Central air conditioner equipments and major components of this cycle are the compressor, condenser, thermostatic expansion valve, and evaporator.

Initially, contaminated and hot gas inside the building or factory enters into the compressor which is initially at low temperature and low pressure. After gas gets compressed, it leaves the compressor at high temperature and high pressure. Then, gas condensed in the condenser central air conditioning machine. It makes its state changed to liquid but it is still at high temperature and high pressure. While liquid flows through the thermostatic expansion valve, it reduces the pressure and temperature. Then, it enters into the evaporator that provides a refrigerating effect to the environment. Thus, the combination of all these components along with other ancillary equipment comprises a .centralized air conditioning system

Centrifugal Fans - Their Uses And How They Work

When fans were first invented, they were used to only blow air around to cool the environment.  As our society advanced, however, the use of fans spread to many other areas of human endeavor; automotive, aviation, electronics, etc.

Now, apart from cooling, they are used for exhaust, combustion, aeration, ventilation, particulate transport, air-purification, and drying. So, depending on the specific requirements (pressure and airflow capabilities), the fans are designed accordingly.

A good example of an industrial fan is a centrifugal fan, also known as a centrifugal blower. In comparison to axial fans, they are more cost-effective and have a simpler design. They are extensively used in HVAC (heating, ventilation, air-conditioning) and air pollution control systems.

Mode of function: They are ideally suited for ducted applications since resistance to airflow is higher and airflow needs to be generated at high pressure. Their main role is the rapid escalation of fluids that pass through them.

Components: They consist of the fan housing, impellers, inlet and outlet ducts, a drive shaft, and a driving mechanism. After the entry of air into the fan housing via the inlet duct, it reaches the center of the impeller. The driving mechanism helps the driving shaft to make the impellers rotate. Rotation of the impellers leads to the creation of kinetic energy, which gives high speed to airflow released from the outlet duct.

The driving mechanism is the most important part of these fans, as it provides the required force for the impeller blades to rotate.

Depending on their pressure generation capabilities, they can be classified into three categories: low pressure, medium pressure, and high pressure.

Depending on their blade designs, their classification is as follows.

  1. Airflow blade. They are efficient and quiet.
  2. Radial blade. They are ideal for dust removal and humidity control systems.
  3. Forward curve: They are most suitable for air pollution control, ventilation, and exhaust systems.
  4. Backward curve: They are curved backward and have high efficiency.

How To Choose The Right Centrifugal Fans For Your Plant

The basic function of centrifugal fans is to drive air from one place to another. They have diverse applications: cooling, drying, conveying, ventilation, etc. The Centrifugal fan manufacturers offer different types of fans with different sizes, with each type offering certain benefits.

So, while purchasing the right centrifugal fans for your industrial setup, you need to choose the ones that are reliable, have the right design and material, fulfill your process requirements, and give optimum efficiency. Your choice will depend on several factors. A few of them are given below.

Fan type and size:

Depending on their fan blade configuration, centrifugal fans have different designs, e.g., backward inclined, radial blade, forward curved, airfoil design. They deliver different airflow rates at different pressures. If you choose an under-sized fan, it may not meet the variable demand conditions of the industrial process in question. If you use over-sized fans to increase efficiency, you may end up with higher capital and operation costs and lower reliability.

Airflow rate:

It determines how well the fan system will handle the material against the system resistance. Wrong ducting and improper installation of dampers, for instance, may have an adverse impact on airflow. It will not carry the material through the system to the destination point if proper velocity is not maintained.

Static pressure:

Ducts and other system components restrict airflow, so you need to consider the pressure drop through them while selecting the fan.

The density of the air to be moved:

Air density varies from the standard because of many factors, e.g., altitude, moisture, temperature, presence of other gases. If the fan works in a system where the material in question has a higher or lower density than the standard, you need to correct the standard conditions. So, while choosing the centrifugal fans, you must consider the effect of these factors on the air density.

We hope you find the above information useful.
