Factors to Consider in Selection of a Good Centrifugal Fan for Industries

Centrifugal fan blowers functions to move the air from place to place. Centrifugal fans are available in different sizes and types having certain benefits. In recent times, there is a great diversity in applications of centrifugal fans including drying, conveying, cooling, aerating and ventilation, etc. In order to select a fan as per the requirement, there are varied specifications that need to select accordingly. A fan with the right material and design can be chosen by considering your industrial process and its requirement, efficiency, and reliability. The correct process to select a fan type totally depends on different factors such as the type, size, airflow rate, density, the static pressure of the air, temperature range, system resistance, space constraints, variations in operating conditions, material to be handled, etc.

Type and Size of The Fan or Blower

Centrifugal fans come with varied designs and sizes such as radial blade, backward inclined, forward curved, airfoil, etc that depending on the blade of the fan. These industrial fans deliver air with different flow rates and pressures. The right centrifugal fan needed to be selected to fulfill needs. Each centrifugal blower has varied abilities and its own applications to perform the industrial process. Choosing the right size of such fans is important to have a good efficiency of energy and system performance. If you will use an undersized or oversized fan, then it becomes difficult to meet with variable demand and conditions to meet the requirements of an industry.

Airflow Rate & Pressure

The airflow rate can be determined to know how well these fans can handle used material against the resistance of the system. Wrong ducting, improper installation of dampers or, system effects an impact on the airflow negatively. These kinds of issues can be evaluated while choosing the proper fan. If these fans s not maintained with a proper velocity of the air, then they will not carry material through the system to a destination point.

Pressure Drop

All the controlling components are used at the outlet or inlet of the fan system that will affect the airflow. Hence while determining the air pressure and airflow requirements of the fan system, it is required to consider restrictions on the airflow that is caused because of the movement of the air through ducts, filters, hose, pipes, louvers, and dampers with other components to control the air.

Handling Material

Several factors are required to be considered to handle the material that is going through the industrial fan. Choosing the right fan with the proper blades is important to not accumulate on blades. To clean applications like airfoil blades are efficient to make granular, dirty, radial wheels work appropriately. While handling the wet or moist material, centrifugal fans with special coatings need to be used for housing, which helps to avoid the corrosion and abrasion of the material. In high-temperature applications like shaft coolers, motor heat shields, insulated housings, shaft seals, are needed to be used in the construction of the fan to avoid temperature effects on the fan system.

Space Constraints

To design fan assemblies, it is required to leave sufficient space for ductwork, foundation, maintenance access, and structural support, etc. A good location needs to be chosen by considering desired airflow and structural constraints. If the industrial fan system has to mount on the roof/wall, it is important to determine the weight, speed, and size of the fan. It is essential to choose the most efficient fan having a minimum noise to be fit within the available space in the application.
